A big change....might you come along ??

OK, so theres a silly story about the name of this blog. I started out in papercrafting by way of invitation making. And actually before that was wedding planning. I still do a bit of that, but the title of this blog (and the little side business) it really WORDY !! I get so tired of explaining it, it doesn't make a lot of sense and doesn't relate back to me. SO, I've decided to move blogs (since I just cant change it) and am hoping you will join me over at www.rosestamps.blogspot.com Thanks so much to my little group of followers. I will aprreciate you whether you follow the new blog or not, it meant a lot to me !!

More pages

I am still making cards, but I wanted to quickly post this page I made with my new kit from My Creative Scrapbook so I can post it to their sketch blog here

As a newbie to this, I'm loving getting co-ordinated papers and embelishments to make my pages. THis page is a REAL departure for me, so many pattern at once but it just pulls at my heartstings when I look at it !

DSC_0017

I had this picture in mind when making the page....and then when I placed it on the page I realized how BLUE the sky was !! Tried colouring over it with a copic and it toned it down a TAD, but it's still quite bluer than the aqua in the papers - oh well lesson learned, bring your photo to your craft room when picking out your papers !!! This is one of my current fav pictures of my daughter at the splash pad this summer, and my hubby snapped it while sitting on a bench behind me as I was standing. It's a great angle to get beautiful sky in your photos and Im going to try it again !!

The pattern papers and most of the embellies are from the august main kit. I coloured some crotchet flowers with copics to match, and sew'd on some SU pool party ribbon. A quick tip, the ribbon was way to aqua for the paper, so I ran my pallette New Canvas pad over it a couple of times to mute out the colours.
Made my circle by tracing around a plate, and the doily was some Su cardstock I punched, put through my paper crimper a few times and then pleated behing the circle.

Here a pic of the dimension

So, happy with my 3rd page ever...anxious to get to more..with my pictures in hand this time !!

A break from cards....

So i took a break from card making to try my hand at something I've always admired.... Scrapbooking !! It was a lot harder than I thought...and Im definitely not really thinking out of the box...so although sophmoric, I'll post and hopefully see some progression...
First is a two page layout, of trying to get a good photo with the kids. Papers and embellies are Crate and October afternoon, canvas button is CTMH. I used my airbrush to colour the thickers...they look...umm...oh well!

DSC_0072

some fun colours and papers, and I micked some of the flowers in the paper. Middle flower is some retired SU ribbon, and the top and bottom flowers are PTI beautiful blooms dies with the rounded part cut off

DSC_0073

Second page is the amount of photos it took to get a decent shot !! No embelishment here as the photos make it quite busy...

DSC_0070

last a single page spread of my son...and the damage a bowl of cherries can do. The two colour scheme is a bit..plain...but this was my very first attempt and I already see some growth from this to my double page layout..so happy with that !! Papers are Bazzil and Cosmo cricket.

DSC_0078

Thanks for staying it out on this longer than usual post. And letting me show off my kiddos a bit too!!

Beautiful Blessings and makeshift edgers

I was really inspired by a card layout Debbie Olsen did during the PTI countdown (last card on this post), where she used the edgers as a layer on her card. Not having the edger I wanted, i decided to improvise with a spellbinders die - label 5 to be exact.

DSC_0411
I used some pp from my stash, and a verse from Beautiful blessings - this set has a perma spot on my desk !!

DSC_0412

I also took the flourish from Mat stack 2 and stamped it on the cutout, creating a bit of a frame. The sentiment looks a bit splotchy as it was coloured with markers (SU) but I think it sort of matches the antiquey look of the card. coloured some paper flowers gray..a little paper rose...done !!
Sorry for the glare on the plastic bag..this one is was destined for the church bookstore and I almost forgot to take a photo of it !!

Weddings....more weddings!

Not gonna lie, but you will probably get pretty sick of wedding cards on this blog over the summer...there are quite a few !!

This one was for my mom, we saw her off on her vacation to Greece last week and she wanted some cards for the various functions she is attending as she visits our family. And just in case you're wondering why you aren't detecting any jealousy in my tone, it's cause I'm SO not jealous! We considered going with them this summer for all of 10 minutes...once I started the mental list of what my 7 month old will need for us to travel...and imagined me luggin it around...fantasy OVER !!
Anyways, sometimes I"ll computer generate Greek saying for the cards going to Greece but I kinda thinks it's cool to keep it in English, then they'll never forget who it's from

DSC_0408

The PP is from a Making memories 8x8 pad. I used some Nestabling on the label 9 shape (can you say LOVE !!!) and stamps from WMS - scrolly circle- and PTI - Mr and Mrs
Also use fancy flourishes over the background
The sparkly grey paper is from a wedding invitation i re purposed (am I the only one who does that ?? I've torn invites apart for paper, ribbon sliders, etc..)

DSC_0409

Added some matching paper to the interior too..and some SU satin ribbon...

Enjoy your week !! Going to tackle the new colour combo from Online card class..MUCH easier this week !!

2nd summer card camp + Magic of Oz

OK, so I have a confession to make. I LOVE THE WIZARD OF OZ!! Everything to do with it. Books (and there are a whole lot ) movies, plays (especially wicked) and anything to do with Oz.

So when Graphic 45 came out with their Magic of Oz line....well I was SUPER excited. I don't have the stamps yet, just the PP but Fran at Frantic Stamper is the ABSOLUTE best. Great service, prices, and especially to this Canadian gal great shipping rates !!
Anyways, had a hard time cutting into this paper. Good thing I have a back up pad to hoard I mean use! And the colours co-ordinated with the card camp colours for this week

I made 2 variations of this card..I had this cute little wooden stamp from goodness knows where and of course the saying fit....and I like how Dorothy and the Scarecrow lead your eye to the sentiment.

DSC_0395

But a bit out of place - the upper left corner was kinda bare. So I tried this variation. Chipboard accent from same line, and a scrap of blue gingham I distressed up with some tea dye.

DSC_0391

So there you have it. PP that happened to match this weeks colours....is that a cop out ?? And what will I ever do with these cards....stare at them a lot i guess !!

Summer card camp

Here's with another colour combo from summer card camp.

This one was a bit easier for me....maybe cause most of the colours are spectral ?? Who knows...

DSC_0397

I stamped some flowers and stems on a pattern paper card base, and tied the ribbon. It looked a little sparse so I added some sparkly brown "dirt" !!

DSC_0398

I added a butterfly (its the same stem stamp, flower fusion 2 or 3) and it blended way to much with the background so I outlined it with and orange copic. Sentiment from a think big, with a couple of rhinestones. Back to having fun !!
I've got another card to share with this combo tonight....

Congratulations Cards

I was asked to make a couple of congratulations cards for 2 graduates. One was "girly" and one was very athletic. So fun to make 2 different cards back to back, I really enjoyed this commission. Mostly because I was just allowed to create based on a word or two, instead of really specific instructions.

The first card is probably my favourite.

photo

I started off with a base of soft stone, and a layer of lavender moon. I made some pattern paper on soft stone with WMS musical backgrounds set, and layered some PTI fancy flourishes on top. Covered the whole thing with glue and tissue paper (one of PTI MIM techniques) and set aside to dry. This was the most time consuming part of the card, and I ended up hacking it to bit !! oh well
Ballerina is from a CTMH set. Beaded oval with some milled lavender distress inks, and WMS fancy phrases for the sentiment - figured it was appropriate with the ballerina. Ribbon is some gorgeous 2 sided Martha Stewart Satin (in the dollar bin and Mikes!!) and lost of rhinestones finish it off.

Next is a MUCH different card..and WAY harder for me to make...kept telling myself to stop when I wanted to add one more embellishment.
This is for the athlete - actually THE top female high school greco-roman wrestler in Ontario - and came in 3rd across Canada. So I wanted to play on that.

DSC_0352

Used the faux metal technique for the middle of the medal (with PTI's Mega mixed messages), and Nichole Lazy Stamper Medallion for the base. Used like a bajillion different adhesives to glue them together!

DSC_0354

Yellow is PTI harvest gold that I stamped with the Chevron from WMS off beat backgrounds. Banners are from PTI's Banner builder, Congrats from Say it with Style both stamped with a brilliance blue.
Ribbon and card base are SU Pacific Point

Thanks for looking everyone !! Enjoy your week!

Summer Card Camp

Hello all, and happy long weekend to those of us in Canada !!

I enrolled in the summer card class thinking it might give me a bit of a kick start to my languishing mojo, and would challenge me.

I was thinking i might get a bit of an intro before the challenges started but BHAM !! Out of the gate we got a colour combo that was...well....challenging !

So I did the best with what I got. I took out full sheets of card stock in those colours....and stared...and stared some more, willing a card to come to me...and nothing. Nada. Zip. So I went back and took a look at Jennifer Macguire's card. The colours weren't exactly in your face, but rather accents. So that gave me some hope and I started again.

DSC_0372

Card base is PTI aqua mist. I cut out a frame using 2 nesties, and love this technique!

Stamped some polka dots in the upper right corner (round and round, PTI anniversary set) and cut off the lower corner. I made this flower using some pretty fabric I picked up at the CREATIV festival a few months ago, and backed it with some purple leaves. I know purple leaves arent exactly found in nature, however since aqua ruffle flowers aren't either i figured I was safe!! The flower was created using 2 different sizes of PTI scallop dies, as well as a big ol' SU button.

DSC_0369

The frame is from a Waltzingmouse set that co-ordinates with the nestie, and the stamp from PTI's new faith based set - name escaping me right now of course.

So I survived my foray into the bright side. I came out alive. Converted - maybe not. But a little more open minded at least !!

Naughty Naughty Blogger

Sorry all. Life has been hectic, and my only computer was largely monopolized by hubby's online course.
However, said course has finished and I can stop surfing on my iPhone !!!
I've got a few things saved on my hard drive to share, and look forward to commenting on all your posts again.
First, I made a card set for a cousin of mine who needed some thank you cards, and here are the first 2.

I made 2 card bases of SU Basic Grey. Love this gray and soft rose combo. I made some pattern paper with PTI doilies and Worn Lipstick distress inks. Vellum Mat stack 4, limitless layers in gray and tag it on the centre.

I did some ribbon loops, and embellished with SU satin ribbon.

OK, off to comment so keeping this quick ! See you soon !!

Mother Mash Up

My Internet friend Michelle calls it a Mash up when you use stamps from different companies - I've got 4 companies products on this card !! But I love it..... Paper is SU's presto patterns. The white pattern is glossy and the rest of the paper is matte, allowing you to brayer or sponge (which I did) to bring the pattern out. I used frayed burlap to layer the colour on the PP Frame is from WMS labels 10, and i don't have this nestie yet but they were SUPER simple to cutout, even for the scissor challenged like me. Cameo is a Hero Arts stamps. I saw Anya from the WMS DT do this with labels 18, and thought it would look just as pretty with some other labels. Mother is heat embossed in white from PTI Mega mixed messages. Brown base is SU's Soft Suede, lace and Brad are also SU The Came was inked in soft suede, then a fine dusting of Champagne Mist API was sponge dabben on ever so slightly.... Enjoy !

A la Mode baby

OK, so this is all Stephanie Mino's fault - she was posting using these adorable MFT A la modes and I had to grab a few - they are irresistible !!!

I made this for my new little niece (Our little girl has a first cousin 3 months younger than her, how cute is that !!) And i coloured up one of my new stamps. It fit perfect in PTI's mat stack 5 die. Crochet border is an MFT die, and the little label is Fillable frames 12 cut down - those little tabby things are perfect for rhinestones, the brad is SU and the little crochet flower is from a PTI friends etsy shop. They match PTI colours and are PERFECTLY sized!! Ribbon is SU taffeta and making me pine for more kraft coloured ribbon options....oh well ....

Special Birthday

So hopefully we all have that friend. The one who got us into this hobby...enables us almost as much as we enable them...TOTALLY thinks nothing of you going over at 9 at night to pick up the perfect stamp/die/embelishment to finish your card...knows your stash almost as well as you do.
So, know you have to make this friend a birthday card....while entertaining you 3 yr old and 2 month old ! And surprisingly this card came together quickly
Fine line base, sweet blush layer stamped with the text stamp from WMS stamped in cognac pallette. Stamped the base from Make a Wish in cognac and the cake in sweet blush.
Vintage cream satin ribbon and fancy cut die cut from Fine Linen...embelished the card with some buttons and some ruffled ink ribbon

Hope she liked it.....there was some PTI goodies in the inside !!!

Special Wedding card

We had a very special wedding to attend recently, with our 3 year old in the wedding party.
So that needed a VERY special card.
I made this rose based on a tutorial from Dana here .I did it in white then sprayed it with Black Pearl API from tsukineko
Ruffled some grey satin SU ribbon, fancy tag sentiment is WMS
I also ran the bottom of the card with the Edgers #1 die - twice

This card was thick - I had to make it a custom envelo-box to fit it !!!
Cardstock is PTI smokey shadow and silver texture Bazzil.

Fly Away Birthday

Hi, sharing a card made for my brother .... he's next youngest from me and his birthday always reminds me how old I'm getting....and that in the fall I will celebrate a big milestone birthday ... EEEEKKK!! Ok on to the card
I started with a background stamped with the two planes from PTI's Fly Away - my little bro is an airplane mechanic and loves all things aviation.
I used mat stack 3 and the co-ordinating stamp set stamped in pure poppy ink...and some fun banners from banner builder set.
The number were taken from my latest PTI box, and cut with some sizzix numbers dies. I went them through twice, slightly shifted the second time to really rough up the edges.
I really like the way this card turned out, it's great when a card is so perfect for the recipient!

PTI Colour challenge

Hi bloggy friends this is my one and only entry in to the PTI colour challenge...just happy I had time to play at all!!
I picked Betsy's colours as I'm a cream kinda gal...and it's the colour I used the least of!! I was really struggling with the brightness of the Hibiscus burst and Harvest gold when I found this sentiment and suddenly the card flew from there. Used a few mat stacks and the guidelines impression plate.
Also, i watched the gluber video on the cosmo cricket blog and thought why couldn't I do that with some scor pages and a circle nestie...and voila!! I use some new SU seam binding to make my rolled flower. Definitely a learning curve, I will adhere the backside to some card stock next time I make one, as if I touched the sticky surface I kept pulling it away from the backing.

I also coloured my seam binding with a copic and scrunched it into this little fussy bow...which I cant decide if I like or not !!

Thanks for stopping by and good luck everyone!!

Make it Monday

I have quite a few cards to make for this weekend so I thought I'd combine one for the make-it monday go to sentiment card over at PTI.

This is a shower card for a special friend. It's been embelished up the yin yang - for me that is
First off, slow to jump on this but it's my first crystal flourish thingy...i like it !
The flower is made with PTI's medium scallop die, i made a few of these when my daughter was born snd I had no time to run to the basement...so brought some things upstairs to work on. The button is an aqua mist button with a jewel that I coloured to match the flourish. Ribbon is a scrap of SU Tafetta that i ran a seam up the middle and bunched up....again something I had made up a while ago. I peeked it behind the flower.
And right after posting this, I snipped the ends of that ribbon - it looked a little too long !!
I used several sentiments to make up my word block - all but one is PTI. Just showed me how little options I have for showers !!
Main sentiment is in Hawaiian shores, the rest of them are in versamark. Not 100 % happy with the alignement - lesson learned practice this first !! Some Zig zag stiches with my machine finishes it up.Papers are PTI' Fine linen, Ocean Tides and Aqua Mist. Felt is Ocean Tides

Special Card for a special girl

popping in quickly to share a card made for my cousin - her 8 month old princess is in the hospital fighting to stay with us. Please send up a quick prayer for her, that a heart be found and that she continues to fight

Card uses TT birthday - so versatile- and Victorain Fripperie from WMS. Doily is MS vintaged up with some tea dye.

I saw this layout in the WMS gallery using this stamp set so I cant take credit for it, but it was VERY easy to put together.

Papertrey Favourites 2010

SO re-posting this card as part of PTI's anniversary festivities.
We were asked to post our favourite of 2010 and this is mine. This glitzy, slightly shabby christmas card is one of my favs...and I'm impressed by my photography skills too!!

Well, I've got a sduper duper camera to take wonderful photos of my cards with (but it does intimidate me a bit) and after about 30 shots I manage to get a few really decent ones. So no more not updating excuses.

So here is my Mojolicious entry for this weeks sketch number 163

Despite the fact that I used a million different products from many companies, this card came together so quickly, and one of the rare times that something works out in reality just as it did in my head.

I'm so in love with my vintage ornaments dies....LOVE LOVE LOVE !
I have some beautiful bronze paper somewhere in my craft room, but after spending about 7 minutes looking for it I decided to improvise. I created 2 different shimmer papers and thought, what the heck I'll use both versions on here. Bottom layer is SU Early Espresso with glimmer mist in SUgar plum fairy sprayed on and then slightly wiped off. Top shimmer is PTI Dark Chocolate with Tsukineko API in champagne mist mixed with rubbing alcohol, and sprayed on. I kinda like the effect of two different shimmers on the card, although I do think the subtler one is a bit prettier.

Ribbon is from Michaels - purchased roughly 2 years ago- Pink is PTI sweet blush, pink ink sweet blush and brown in Brilliance Coffee bean. Glitter is MS brownstone.

Hydrangea thanks

Here is a card I made using some colours that kinda called to me and I went with it....Plun Pudding and Harvest gold ?? I kinda like it !
My favourite part though is the hydrangea. It was coloured using my pebbles clay chalks as well as my copics. It was SUPER fun to colour and layer the chalks, and highlight with a bit of blue copic Cut out with a labels 4 nestie and tea dye on the edges. Used some autumn abundance paper, and some PP satin ribbon.
This card was for the fantastic Melissa J, who not only let me ship a rather large package to her house and shipped it to me in Canada, but also sent me a beautiful card when Elena was born. Thanks Melissa! PTI freinds are the greatest!!

Some Valentine Cuties

Decided to pull put my much neglected SU Valentines sets to make a few cards - In fact these are some of my Favourite SU sets of all time and am going to try to use them for more of a year round application.
First card also uses some retired SU paper and brads, and some ribbon I found at Michaels. Used Fine Linen and I am NEVER going to stamp and copic colour on this paper again!! The copics blended easily.....too easily...thankfully after much use of the colour less blender I kept everything pretty much within the lines !
Used the negative left over from the Victorian lace border die on the bottom.

Cant decide if I like the bow or not. ON, it seems like too much. OFF, it seems like something is missing....let me know!

For my next card, I ACTUALLY used a pre-stamped image I had in my stash !! I know alarming ! Coloured this with SU markers ... this technique is probably THE ONLY reason I'm still holding on to some of my rubber stamps, I like to be able to colour part of an image.
Paper pierced and traced the ground.
Stamps, ribbons and papers are SU.

AND, I'm actually lining my envies now.....and embellishing the inside !! Thanks Stephanie Mino for continually inspiring me to complete the "package" !!!

AWWW..thanks Kristin!

So the sweet Kristin (jcmom04) gave me this sweet blog award and totally made my day !!

First I'm to link back to her fabby blog with such a cute title

Now I have to list 8 things about myself

1. I've been blessed with 2 lovely children (and a fantastic husband)

2. I've always crafted. Used to make and sell beaded jewelry in high school, made many of the components for my wedding.

3. I've been stamping for about 2 years now. My girlfreind Suzanne got me into it, and now we inspire/mutually enable each other!

4. I automatically make a card for my mom when we go to joint functions. Cause I know she'll call me the morning of the shower/wedding/birthday party and ask if I have time to make her a card

5. HHMM...I guess I'm not that interesting !!
6. I'm addicted to all things PTI, including the forum
7. I have approx 40 cards in various stages of completion. And many pages of stamped backgrounds! I guess I'm saving them for a rainy day??!!
8. The highlight of my crafting career was meeting Nichole et all at CHA - including some forum freinds. And I think I was kinda flirting with Julie's son, but poor guy was run ragged restocking back and forth so we just wanted to brighten his day!!
OK, so here's the part where I shout out to three other bloggers.
Stephanie Mino is definitely one she is a crafting MACHINE! Her cards are a beaut and she reminds me to finish the inside of my cards!!
Michelle - Derbylea- is another love her CAS and her colouring! Plus I love the clever way she combines her stamp sets
Denise (look at her blog title really quick and tell me what you thought it said) LOVE her cards they always seem to have the perfect finishing touch.
Plus MelissaJ, and all my Post-It sisters.
Thanks so much for the award Kristen....you made my day!!

Nautical guidelines

So a while back there was talk of stamps that fit in the guidelines grid, and this card has been in my mind ever since !!
I used stamps from Out to sea, stamped on rustic cream paper with some versamagic dew drops.
I stamped the sentiment on twill for a continuation of this masculne look....like it ! This next card used the same stamps. Cut out some canvas with my limitless layers die, and layered it on to a mat stack 3. Tied some twill around it, and adhered a pre cut scalloped canvas border from SU on to the bottom. I figured I could cusotmize it with whatever sentiment I needed later.

Thanks for looking !!
